KS Students Achieving Excellence
Post Graduate Information Form
The Finance, Insurance & Law Department and the Katie School of Insurance sponsor insurance organizations for students interested in insurance. The organizations include Gamma Iota Sigma and the Actuarial Club. Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) is part of a nationally recognized fraternity. GIS and the Actuarial Club are important in enhancing the professional development of students interested in a career in the insurance industry.
GIS hosts several events each semester, including social and business meetings. Speakers from the industry usually are featured at business meetings to provide "real-world" insight about current issues in risk management and insurance. These meetings and social events also provide students with opportunities to interact with business professionals and departmental faculty on a less formal basis than is possible within a classroom setting.
All students interested in risk management and insurance are strongly encouraged to join Gamma Iota Sigma. Membership in GIS not only makes the student eligible for scholarships and awards, but also makes the student eligible to submit a resume for inclusion in the departmental resume book (described later). For new members to join Gamma Iota Sigma, complete an application available in 432 College of Business or online, and include the membership fee, payable to Gamma Iota Sigma. Renewing members should submit a new form, and make a check payable to GIS. Questions about GIS should be directed to the organization's faculty advisors, Professor Yu-Luen Ma (419 COB), Debbie Babcock (432 COB), or to any of the GIS Officers.
Alpha Kappa's mission is to set members apart by providing opportunities for interaction with industry professionals. We aspire to create awareness of internship and career opportunities in the fields of risk and insurance.
