Westran Insurance Scholarship Foundation

The Westran Insurance Scholarship Foundation was established in 1990 with a commitment to encourage and promote education in the insurance industry by awarding scholarships to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in insurance.

Named after Roy Westran, former president of Citizens Insurance Company, chairman of Accident Fund Insurance Company, and past president of the Society of CPCU, the Foundation recognizes the need to attract new candidates to our industry.  The Westran Foundation has responded with more than $378,000 in scholarships to 241 students since its inception.

The Foundation is now accepting applications from undergraduate students with a major or concentration in actuarial science, insurance, loss control, risk management, or with specific career goals in insurance.

This award is based on field of study, overall gradepoint average, co-curricular activities, and recommendations from a faculty member and an insurance professional.  Preference is given to students from the Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin). The application deadline is March 31, 2010.
